Impermanence Encapsulated

Mixed media installation, capsule machine, 2025

This interactive installation invites viewers to engage with mortality through a small act of choice. A functioning capsule machine offers mini glow sticks — disposable objects that, when cracked, emit a short-lived chemical glow. Each becomes a personal memento mori, quietly marking the tension between play and impermanence.

The glow stick is a recurring motif in my work, symbolising synthetic ritual and the aesthetics of decay. Presented as an interactive installation, a looping projection shows sped-up footage of pedestrians passing capsule machines in a Taipei underground mall — a visual echo of consumer repetition and ritual motion in public life.
